Ph.D. candidate at the academy of arts Vienna. This workshop is organized in cooperation with Fem*Friday / kulturen in bewegungFull description:In her book Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches, Audre Lorde writes, "Poetry is not a luxury; it is a way we help give a name to the nameless so it can be thought...As they become known to and accepted by us, our feelings and the honest exploration of them become sanctuaries andspawning grounds for the most radical and daring ideas."In this workshop, we will improvise on Lorde’s insight ‘poetry is not a luxury’ by merging it with music as a multidisciplinary creative activity. As we currently observe an interesting age ofblurring boundaries between art forms and creative genres in the context of collaborative artistic practices and artists no longer find themselves confined in one art form or -ism but rather are free to practice a creative talent and imagination at hand. This workshop taxes a drive from the making of poetry and jazz (poetry and music) as a collaborative practice of freedom. As poetry and music are close to self-expression and self-affirmation it can be practiced by anyone with a passion and interest. We have witnessed how the world is full of talent in this difficult time. If we were to think of one positive impact from COVID 19 pandemic, it is the creativity weare overwhelmed with across cultures and geographical locations. This phenomenon didn’t make everyone creative overnight but created a platform of discovering one’s creative potentialwhich has been immersed by the everyday chaos of life.Following an experimental approach, the workshop will take the elements of poetry and jazz as an example to get inspired by how they are intertwined in their artistic formation and how thefreedom of improvisation can be practiced as an artistic expression. The workshop is not limited to a specific language or way of art-making but encourages multilingual expressions as well asan exploration of different music genres, sounds, and text writing/ formats that will be made available in the space. It is important to know that this workshop is not aiming to teach how to write poetry or make jazz music but takes the form as a stirring element to explore the creativity at hand to form a collective performance piece as an outcome. As it is also a process of learning one another for a possible future collaboration and creative networking, it invites anyone and everyone with apassion to explore what can we possibly do if coming together in such a platform.more information about: Indigo City 2020 - Programm
