The Metal Mang Orkaestra is a collection of sound sculptures (Metal Mangs) made by Roy F Culbertson III. Using synthesizer filters, live coding and magnetic tape manipulation as a means of audial frottage, the operators of the MMO abstract upon the abstraction, taking otherworldly sounds to even further reaches.

The steel sound sculptures which comprise the Metal Mang Orkaestra are brought to produce sound by means of hitting, rubbing, striking, bowing, scratching, vibrating, clunking, blowing, et al. Magnetic pickups, piezo elements and geophones are utilized to amplify the sound of the sculptures. The acoustic sounds will be sampled live by various means, both digital and analog, to create a sonic decoupage based on a graphic score by Roy F Culbertson III.

If the concert setting is conducive to audience interaction, after the graphic score has been played to completion the sound sculptures will be brought from the stage to the ground for members of the audience to see for themselves how the Metal Mangs work and have a chance to play.

The current manifestation of the MMO includes: Roy F Culbertson III, Lucas Henao Serna, Moya Hoke, Martin Gius and Eric Arn.
