#ExperimentelleMusik

“Songs for purple skies” is a solo project by the Chilean composer, singer and visual artists Roberta Lazo Valenzuela. In this live performance she delivers a series of experimental songs, soundscapes and interludes embracing influences of ambient, jazz, experimental pop, Latin-American folk, contemporary and baroque music. Both lyrics and sound are of an intimate nature that reflect on life in a foreign country, fragmented cultural identity and the passing of time. The setup consists of vocals, a small loop station, self-made instruments, daily objects, and other small gadgets.

Harmonies, gentle counterpoints and thick textures are created by adding and removing layers of voices, dynamically moving the music from one piece to the next, without knowing clearly when one ends and the other starts. The sound atmospheres transport us to an ethereal and at times melancholic mood while the clean melodic lines paint pictures in a somewhat oneiric narration. It is a continuum, a listening experience that submerges us into an intimate and delicate ambience.
