Scientific progress is often understood in terms of increasing recognition of the truth. In this evening lecture, co-organised by the Institute Vienna Circle and the Central European Universi-ty’s Philosophy Department, philosopher of science Philip Kitcher (John Dewey Professor of Phi-losophy, Columbia University) will argue against that view and defend an alternative, pragmatic conception of scientific progress that recognises scientific inquiry inevitably pervaded by a wide range of value judgments.
